Harp Restoration

I took up playing the harp in 2021 when I needed a new hobby during the pandemic. Soon after starting lessons, I became fascinated with the mechanisms and construction of harps. This interest led me to connect with Carl Swanson, a Boston, MA based harpist and harp-builder. Carl is a master harp-builder and specializes in the restoration of 100+ year old instruments. A crucial, yet technically complicated, manufacturing step in the process is bending wood for the rounded shape of harp bodies. Carl and I worked together to develop a manufacturing plan that leverages photogrammetry, CAD modeling, CNC manufacturing and wood bending techniques. Our proposal was presented to the Autodesk Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center in Boston for a grant application.
